Polk County? Why, it's our home. It's a great place to raise a family and grow a business. We just celebrated 60 years in business and this area has been extremely supportive of our business all through the years. We've expanded our store, expanded our inventory and never have trouble keeping busy. Business is good in Polk County; come join us.

Polk County Electric
Bolivar, Missouri

Polk County has been our home for more than 60 years. Since 1946, when Frank Glendenning set up shop in an old log cabin, Polk County Electric has had the privilege to serve this county’s electrical needs through three generations of the Glendenning Family. And, with continual residential and commercial development, Polk County has provided three generations of loyal customers to keep our business thriving. This has been a great place to live and work for three generations of our family and we plan to be here for generations to come.

Nelson's Auto Service & Towing
Fair Play, Missouri

As a part of the industrial park in Fair Play, my business has overwhelmingly increased. Moving my business to Polk County has been an excellent move for me. The city of Fair Play was totally awesome in helping me relocate. My shop is larger, my staff increased. These are good people here. And I watch the traffic increase almost daily in front of my business. This area is growing and expanding. I'm glad we came to Polk County.

Arlene Lear Insurance
Humansville/Bolivar, Missouri

My husband Lionel and I purchased the Ford agency and moved to Bolivar in 1964. The first couple that visited us said "you probably will not like Bolivar as you have to be in the 'click' here in order to make it." Just 24-years-old and never owning a business before, that was scary. And, that could not have been more wrong!

Polk County people welcomed us with open arms, all absolutely great. That same year, I started the Arlene Lear Insurance Agency and the business has been good but I am dealing with good people. I feel very fortunate to have a business in our small size town with many advantages of a much larger town like our hospital facilities, the Baptist University and strong, state-of-the-art technology.

I am glad we chose this part of the Ozarks.

Creator Designs
Bolivar, Missouri

When I first came to Polk County, I was a student at Southwest Baptist University. After graduation, I stayed. From running a small back-room screen printing company by myself, God has blessed us with great opportunity in Bolivar. Twelve years later and now with nearly sixty employees - many SBU students themselves - we've had to move to larger buildings four times. Each time, the area supported us, the community helped us and our employees stayed with us. We do business all over the country and Polk County provides us a very affordable, convenient base to operate. We've now added a new store in Springfield, but kept our production in Bolivar. That's where we'll stay.

Polk County has been a good home for us since opening for business in 1972. Working with wholesalers, distributors and the retail public, Polk County is a stable location for the manufacturing we do for the structural steel and transportation industries. It also serves us well as the central hub for a nearly 50-member dealer network. The strong labor force with a good work ethic and excellent skills is a great asset.

The people of Polk County are probably the county's greatest asset. The workforce is dependable, trainable and hard-working. The customers are loyal. The county and city officials have been more than accommodating to work with. Wal-Mart carefully chooses where to locate and where to expand. Our sales figures and low employee turnover prove they made a good decision to come to Bolivar. We have been very well accepted into the community and they have embraced us.
