Bolivar R-I School District has a AAA rating and features four award-winning campuses. Most recently, Bolivar High School was nominated for the National Blue Ribbon Award by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Bolivar is also home to Southwest Baptist University, a four-year co-educational liberal arts university, the Bolivar Technical College, Polk County Christian School and the Missouri College of Cosmetology.
Among other cultural attractions, you can revisit early area history at the Polk County Museum, located in the North Ward School building built in 1903, appreciate fine art at the Ella Carothers Dunnegan Gallery of Art, and take in a play at the Walnut Street Theatre or a concert at the SBU Pike Auditorium, courtesy of the Bolivar Area Community Concert Association. Bolivar also features the Polk County Library and the Polk County Genealogy Society Library, if you’re in the mood for a good book or a bit of family ancestry.

Bolivar is also home to the beautiful Dunnegan Memorial Park and the John Playter Memorial Park.
